Re: DVD Giveaway: Making Frame and Panel Doors by Hendrik Varju

Sometimes videos give you tips you would never glean from just reading a book.

Re: UPDATE: Making Drawers by Hendrik Varju

I always dread the part of the project where you have to build the drawers. I never can seem to get the joints and widths cut so that the drawer ends up the correct width for the drawer slides.

Re: UPDATE: Weekend Woodturning Projects: 25 Simple projects for the home by Mark Baker

My wife keeps bugging me to make something on my lathe. Maybe this will get me going.

Re: UPDATE: Book Giveaway: Beautiful Boxes: Design and Technique by Doug Stowe

My son thought he could come over to the shop to build a beautiful box for his wife for Christmas. He had 2 hours. Needless to say, he didn't even get the rough lumber milled in that time. He could have used a book like this.

Re: UPDATE: Handmade Furniture: 21 Classic Woodworking Projects to Build for Your Home by Rafael Nathan

This sounds like the perfect book for me.

Re: UPDATE: Finishing Wood from Fine Woodworking

I have yet to find a finishing technique that I like.
I want one that is foolproof, easy to clean up after, allows me to take my time when putting it on, very durable, easily repairable, and doesn't look like poly when I'm done.
I also want one that doesn't set off my explosive gasses alarm like shellac does.
I suppose it is too much to ask for, but it would be nice if I found that solution in this book.

Re: UPDATE: Fine Woodworking's Tables and Chairs

I've never ever dreamed of trying to make a chair. I tend to build things that are all at right angles to each other. I would never think of building a chair without a LOT of direction.

Re: UPDATE: A Lesson Plan for Wood Turning by James Rodgers

This book might actually get me to make that project for my wife she keeps asking me about.

Re: UPDATE: Wooden Boxes, by Doug Stowe and Strother Purdy

My son needs this book. He tried to make a box for his wife. He bought all the wood, brought it over, started cutting, and got stuck. A year later, I gave him back the wood.

Re: UPDATE: Honing and Setting Jointer and Planer Knives by Hendrik Varju

I have owned a joiner for many years. I have never used it. I have no idea if it is set up correctly. I'm almost afraid to turn it on. I would love the DVD to see how I did.

Re: UPDATE: The Unplugged Woodshop: Handcrafted Projects for the Home & Workshop by Tom Fidgen

I attended a 6-week course by the same name. It was taught by the editor of another woodworking magazine. I learned a lot, but haven't had time to practice the craft. This book would sure help.

Re: How to Fix a Bad Bullet Catch

When I first read the title of the article, I thought you were talking about a VERY dangerous sport - the Bullet Catch - even more dangerous than the Javelin Catch. ;-)

Re: UPDATE: Routers & Router Tables from the editors of Fine Woodworking

As with all of these books, it would be nice to have a list of the original articles that make up the book. That way I would know if I needed the book because I was missing the articles.
