Re: Holiday Gift Contest: Official Rules
@juliette from Quebec and all other woodworkers who reside in Quebec: The reason you are not able to participate in this, and most other contests that are open to Americans and people in other parts of Canada, is because contests in Quebec are regulated by Loto Quebec who place certain restrictions on how contests, lotteries, etc can be run. Any contest that a Quebec citizen participates in, must meet these Quebec-specific rules, and it frequently isn't in the interests of organizations to have to conform to the additional regulations. That's what I know in general, because I used to live in the Montreal area before moving to the United States. You could get further information from Loto Quebec. All the drawers I've made so far, and the jigs I am beginning to make, are all made out of plywood. This would go a long way to helping out with a few issues I've been having, and answer some questions.

Considering where my skill level is supposed to be going next..., I'd love to have this book as a head start.

Major bummer. Really a bummer. His easy-going manner and assumed confidence in his audience's ability to understand and do what he was showing them, has inspired me and thousands of others like me to try, and in trying, do. I would have rather that he quit TOH instead, but that's just opinion. Dang. It's like watching your favorite sports figure retire, and realize that you aren't going to be able to watch the magic the way you used to. Still... Norm can sleep well knowing that he's inspired many to get involved, and given additional confidence to those who were already woodworkers. One of the three men alive in the world today who I'd just like to shake their hand, and say "Thanks". My wife will no longer be able to smile when she hears me say: "But Norm... why can't I use my own glasses?" every time Norm got to that bit where he said: "...nothing more important than... THESE safety glasses". Vaya con dios brother.

Gotta admit that I am seriously wondering how good these things are, and am kind of doubtful. What's wrong with just using clamps or dabs of silicone on scrap wood? Still... it might be nice to try them to see if they're worth it.

For someone who comes from a long line of men who know what the jagged edge on a saw is used for, and who at the tender pre-retirement age of 55 is trying desperately to follow in their footsteps (thereby stopping their ghostly snickers), this book would be a valuable stepping stone forward.
