I built this for my daughter as a night stand.  The top is made of Cherry, Quilted Maple and Jatoba.  The rest is Maple and the finish is a water based poly.

I couldn't have said it better myself. The only motivation that I might add is that I like the idea that the things I make might be around for 100's of years to come. I could never be a snow sculpter and my medium will never be sidewalk chalk. Stone masonry interests me but I produce more with wood. With so many options it really is the perfect material.

I love how individual opinions of 'Quick and Easy' differ. :)

This looks like an absolutely amazing project. I love the use of local materials and when it's done I'm sure it will look like the bones of it been around for 100 years.

Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to part II.

(Those two trees just up slope look like they'll give you trouble in 20 years or so.)
