This was so frustrating to post. It took me 7 times to re-write the post as it was deleting it and asking me to write something. Anybody else is experiencing this non-sense?

Yes, you're right. It was cut and mitered, but each side at a different angle. Since following the grain was the "must" thing to do, it was a tedious operation with all that geometry.
