Retired pipefitter. Still active with woodworking, motorcycles, river kayaking, camping, and related outdoors activities. I build one-of-a kind self designed pieces from solid wood. New England has an abundance of furniture woods and I have a friend with a tree service. Free oak, maple, and ash. I have to pay to get it milled. So with material not an issue I concentrate on design. So far so good. Not Sam Maloof but ok for an intermediate butcher.

Re: Replacement Batteries Recalled
It seems that everything I look at these days comes from China. Like the Japanese, Taiwanese, and S.Koreans, it will take them some time to make the transition from manufacturers of poor to medium quality goods, to making high quality products. The price will go up accordingly. Meanwhile, I take no chances with them. I purchase used tools off Craigs list and E-Bay, Woodcentral classified ads, or from friends. The Chinese tools are gettin better, just not there yet. Stay tuned.

Hi. I did a bridal joint at the top of a rear chair leg with this method. Do use a clear material for he base and do leave the stock about three inches longer than needed to accommodate the distance between the pins and the bit. I just did a standard thru mortice then cut the top off to create the open joint.

OK, let's take this a few steps farther. Why stop at table saws? Let's apply the same technology to shapers, routers, bandsaws, jointers, skill saws, dremel tools and anything else that spins a sharp cutter. I'm sure some enterprising inventor can tweak Gass's wonderful invention to encompass all woodworking tools.

Hi all. Probably just my ignorance but after multiple attempts to find out when and where Rough Cuts is playing in my area I have found nothing that matches up with my local PBS station WGBH Boston. I have googled "when and where to watch Rough Cuts" and similar requests many times and tho there is lots of info being dispatched there I have found nothing about when I can see it. My cable carrier (Charter) shows nothing in the guide at the times when the program was supposed to air or at any other time. I looked at every program on the guide for an entire week and no listing of Rough Cuts. Help please. Thanks in advance. Marc.

I think woodworkers in general owe a large debt of gratitude to Norm and Russ for continuing NYW for as long as they did. The body of work was prodigious and the quality of Norm's craftsmanship improved over the years to a point where even top tier woodworkers quit complaining about it. NYW was the impetus of many of us today. We have hobbies and in some cases businesses that started with Norm. That said I think WGBH has a winner of an idea here and Tommy seems like a guy that can continue to inspire newbie woodworkers as well as please the more experienced of us. We, as a woodworking community, need these video examples of our craft. Magazines are great but to see a piece of woodwork being created has no equal. 1000 words and all that. More power to them. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing the first episode.
