Re: Chris Gochnour's technique for inlaying stringing
I have the same question re the stringing across the grain and wood movement of the table top. Surely the stringing could break over time, couldn't it? I read in an earlier issue of FWW something about using end grain stringing for the cross grain portions. I would like the author's opinion on this.

I would use an Exacto knife guided by a metal ruler to outline the waste piece. Then I would gently parry away out the damaged veneer piece with a sharp chisel held flat with the help of a rest clamped as shown in the pictures. gluing a matching piece just proud of the surface is then fairly easy. Sand level and refinish.
