When I logged on I was surprised to see this DVD as the current giveway. I have the "Passion for Wood" website saved in my browser favorites so it's handy when I have money in the budget to buy the "Wood Science & Design" DVD. If I won a free copy of it I'd be so tickled I'd probably do a "Snoopy Happy Dance" like my beagle does when he gets a dog biscuit treat.

My Dad, who passed away two years ago, had a wonderful collection of canes and walking sticks. They included antiques passed down from ancestors, antiques purchased from flea markets & antique stores, new ones, and others he made himself. They ranged from very simple pieces which followed the slope of the found wood to very ornate carved pieces.

I was fortunate enough to inherit a couple of them. It would be great to be able to learn how to make some of my own to put along side those from Dad's collection.

As a woman who started teaching myself to build furniture two years ago, I rely heavily on "how to" books. Until recently, most of my work was done outside in my driveway. Thus to finish my pieces, I simply used the same exterior latex paint that remained after painting my house, so that every rain drop falling while I worked wouldn't send me scurrying to throw tarps over everything. Now that I have created an indoor work space inside my shed, I can utilize more appropriate techniques for finishing my furniture pieces. This book looks like it will be of great use to me.
