A few days before Christmas 2013 I came across the Video "How to Cut Dovetails on the Tablesaw' in Fine Woodworking. I have wanted to make a toy box for…
So what does this have to do with Fine Woodworking ????
This is not why I subscribe to this magazine !!
You have to use the tools at hand to get the job done. Thanks for the positive comment. I have cut dovetails by hand but it seems to be very tedious as I don't cut them on a regular basis. Also to be accurate. To answer your question , I don't think it is cheating. It just makes it more enjoyable and I plan on making another toy box shortly for my other grandson. (the parts are already roughed out)
Jan 23, 2014 Very detailed work. I took a look at the pictures on the web any was just intrigued at the process. Great pictures also, as now that it is done you have a history of the whole process.
Very nice indeed. My daughter has asked me to make her a blanket box / hope chest similar to this. Just looking at the pictures makes me want to go out and start making it. Thanks for sharing this project with us.
Nice to see dovetails. I have been working with alder also but the colour of the raw wood is a reddish brown. Did you apply a stain or is it a clear finish ???
Great looking toy box.
I have been sharpening handplanes and chisels for 40 years now and I am always open to new methods from an expert such as Hendrik. A few years ago I had the opportunity to talk to Hendrik at a wood show and he was such a down to earth guy. I would love to have the DVD to gain more insight into what he has to say and show me.
I've been looking for some plans or pictures also to build a toy box for my grandson. Ive already bought some wood and now just need some inspiration. Thanks for posting your pictures.
