After retiring from the Hearing Health Care Field I needed something to do. That was 1995. Although I had never done woodworking I thought it might be interesting. It became my passion and was the beginning of a never ending, self-taught vocation. My skill level is pretty high now and I have a very well equipped work shop.

Sofa Table

This is a mahogny sofa table.  It has Queen Anne Legs, sculped apron, and an inlaid granite top.  The finish on it was made using Bartley (dark) grain filler, and then, Formby's Tung...

Cypress Bombay Chest

These are Bombay Chest Jewelry Boxes.  I cut them from a single block of cypress.  David Marks had featured one out of walnut in a magazine and I used his idea to make mine.

Re: UPDATE: 2011 Fine Woodworking Archive DVD-ROM (1975 - 2011)

As a self taught woodworker over the past 18 years I can truly say Fine Woodworking Magazine and Online Membership have taught me a wealth of knowledge. Like the blog today on cutting rabbets on curved drawer fronts. That was invaluable.

Re: Appeals court upholds Osorio tablesaw verdict: Feds consider landmark safety standard

Several years ago I cut my fingers really bad on the tablesaw. It was caused by my doing dumb things. First I had no safety equipment installed. Next, I was in a hurry and trying to cut a small piece of scrap holding it with my fingers. No one is liable for my stupidity! This court decision ranks up there in the Stella Awards. Put hot coffee in your crotch, and then, start driving. How on Earth do these geniuses in the legal system come up with such garbage?

Re: The New and Improved Woodworking Life

I have been doing woodworking for about 17 years now. There are a lot of things I need to learn, but in all fairness, I have learned a lot. After thirty years in the hearing health care profession retirement hit me with nothing to do. I had never owned anything more than a hammer and handsaw, and very rarely had an occasion to use them. It just hit me one day that I wanted to do woodworking. The rest is history. My work is pretty decent nowadays.
