Nice work! What hardware did you use for the sliding middle doors? Are they hung from the top only?

Nice bench. My bench was one of my first projects as well. Don't worry too much about that first scratch. After years of use, all the scratches and stains will be a kind of history of projects.

Very nice. Your a brave man to make a king size bead out of hickory! That can be a mean wood to work.

wow! I wouldn't even know where to start on something like this, let alone design it! Beautiful job.

Once I had it designed, it took me about 2 weeks to build. I could have built a second in about 1/2 the time. Cost was pretty reasonable. I used 1 sheet of 1/2" cherry plywood and 1 sheet of 1/4" plywood for the backs. All the drawer fronts and vertical pieces were shorts which the local mill sells for 50% off so they were pretty cheap. I would say I had <$200 in wood and another %50 in drawer slides and handles.

I bought the one from Lee Valley. The lift works perfectly. I built the table shown with a 3/4" 3'x3' cherry top and a second one with a 1" 2'x4' top. both are easy to lift and stay down when closed.

I wrote to Lee Valley to ask a question about their spec and the sales rep actually opened a box and measured the dimensions for open and closed! It turned out to be exactly the same as others for about 1/2 the price.
Re: Polynesian Vase
Very different. I like the contrasting pieces floating over the cut out.
