I begain woodworking when I was a teenager by making laminated skateboard decks.I spent many years making custom knives and the occaisional wood project. In 2006 a friend gave me a Powermatic M90 wood lathe. What a beast! Later that year I bought a new Powermatic 3520-B. What a dream! My fun over the years is now a passion at the lathe. Having retired from active duty National Guard (Army Special Forces) I have many new responsibilities at home but the lathe produces Christmas presents, gifts during other family events and one day maybe an income.

Re: golden section gauge

I used the link above. Terrific information and easy description of the golden section guage. Thank you!!

Re: Salad Bowls and Rolling Pin

I'm curious as to whether or not the bottom will move more than the sides will allow? It would seem that the small stay-segments would move very little but the broad face grain bottom would move more and possibly crack the glue or wood joints.

I've been making rolling pins alot lately too. Consider the european style tapered from both ends (no handles). The overall length is about 18 inches. The large diameter is no more than 1 1/2 and the ends are about 1 inch. My wife and daughter like them better because they are lighter and press the dough out infront and to the sides because of the slight taper.
