Since I am a patent attorney, I thought I would poke around a little. I would not say that Mr. Gass's patent is air tight. He spent 6 years trying to get the first patent allowed (about twice the average). There is some fertile ground here for Bosch to design a work around.
posted: 12:55 pm on October 15thRegardless, both the patent system and the legal system are doing their jobs -- encouraging innovation and changing the nexus of business decisions to include consideration of the safety of the consumer. Bosch's efforts to design a stop technology (likely as a response to this lawsuit) can only help the consumer eventually. It will be nice to see what other manufacturers come up with over the next 10 years until Gass's patent expires.
