Re: Behold, the Speed Tenon

I would add some form of holding device for positive control of the wood. I noticed your hands slipping the odd time.
I have never seen such an outcry one articles the deal with making cove cuts with a table saw.
A novice on a lathe is just as likely to cut to aggressively!

Re: Play Fine Woodworking's Game: Against the Grain

A good learning tool, but the saw in use will protect careless, incompetent people from injury won't it? That is want we as a society want in our lives - risk free living regardless of our competence.
As with seat belts and air bags, the tool will become the primary line of defence not the brain.

Re: More Details on the Carlos Osorio Tablesaw Lawsuit

So where are the state and/or federal occupational health folks?
How many times will the contractor pay to replace the protective device. I guess the Saw Stop guy is just drooling thinking about the idea of an army of half wits field testing his device every day.

Of course add to the whole circus the concept of being judged by a jury of our peers...

Gina,

Looks like the content of FHB is now on the FWW members page.

Re: UPDATED: Giveaway and Poll: The Most Requested Woodworking Gifts of 2009

I was aiming for a bigger bandsaw but my best friend felt she needed a better set of wheels. So That has replaced the tool wish list for a few years. Sigh.
But it is all good isn't it.

Happy Holidays to you all!

Re: Poll: What accessories, jigs, and shop gear are on your holiday wish list?

I agree with Don. Just a bit more space would be perfect.

Re: The Forum Fix

It is -30C up here in the Fort (under the bridge :-). )
At least it is quiet.
I got a new 3/4" bi-metal 6-4 (4-6) TPI band that wants to dig into some serious wood. That is where I am off to.

Re: UPDATED: What Tools Are on Your Holiday Wish List?

Enough time to finish everything I have started. Then I'll have room to see what I don't have.
The main tool wish would be continued good sense to walk away from my workshop without doing any harm to myself, my family or my neighbors.

Re: The Forum Fix

Gina,

How about a video of the nail biting action? I know it wouldn't be nearly as exciting as watching Gary dimensioning wood or Peter spreading varnish.

Hope all goes well for your team.

Re: This Finish Stinks!

This finish is presented in The Basics of Craftsmanship (1999) as well. Hack does comment that high quality turpentine is getting harder to find. I went and bought a liter of no name turpentine and most of it is still in the container. It absolutely reeks, smell toxic and disgusting. This could be me, as I find a lot of perfume and herbicides quite foul to the nose.
So I use the formula with ultra low odor mineral spirits.
My question would be "What constitutes a high quality turpentine?

Re: UPDATE: Book Giveaway: The New Complete Guide to the Band Saw

This would be a great addition to the library.
