I am a third generation woodworker, born in 1944, naturally enjoy working with wood and have done so on an amateur scale for a long time before starting to make Shaker oval boxes in 2002.
World renowned John Wilson of Charlotte, MI taught me the fine art of making Shaker oval boxes. John has taught in England, at the Smithsonian Institution and at many Shaker Villages whenever he is available. He continues to be my mentor today.
With my love of working with wood this has been a wonderfully challenging craft with which to hone my skills. It pleasures and satisfies me greatly to make such a simple, elegant design with practicality (nesting boxes require little space) and utility (almost anything was and is stored in them). Since I am truly committed to excellence, the making of the boxes is a considerably time consuming craft.
Best Functional In Wood Award, 35th Ann. Salt Fork Arts & Crafts Fest., Cambridge, OH, 2003. First Place in Woodworking, 32nd Annual Arts in the Park Festival in Blue Ridge, GA, 2008. Member: Toe River Arts Council, Spruce Pine, NC, and Yancey County Burnsville Chamber of Commerce where I reside with my husband, Richard Moore, a maker of fine Shaker brooms.

Shaker Oval Boxes
Shaker boxes with a variety of uses. Made by soaking the side bands in simmering water and bending around a solid core. I finish them with lacquer.
