This is a set of nightstand lamps I made as a wedding present for some friends. At the time I had no powertools except for a handheld drill, no workbench, and a somewhat dull plane. Planing the maple...

Re: Search Trouble on FineWoodworking.com?

The biggest problem I have is that article hits and hits for the readers gallery get all mixed up. If I am looking for, say, Garrett Hack's article about his Huntboard, the most and first hits are for pieces in the readers gallery.

On a somewhat different note, I wish there was an online index of the magazine (with title pictures). For example, if I remember an article in the past 6 months but can't rememebr who wrote it, I can't just browse the back issues by clicking on the cover pages. that is only possible for the current issue. why not expand that feature?

Re: Six drawer dresser

Very nice, especially the consistent grain of the drawer fronts. Did you use plywood for the drawer bottoms? it looks as if the grain runs from the front to back , not side to side as should be in a solid wood drawer bottom. Congrats on the new addition!(The child, not the dresser;-)

cheers

Re: walnut table with red date palm and walnut top

Very nice! I see Scandinavian and Maloof's influence.
Congrats to a beautiful piece.

Re: UPDATE: Book Giveaway: 500 Chairs and 500 Tables

My wife and I don't even have a coffee table, so any inspiration for a new one would be appreciated.

Many thanks!

Re: Bedside Lamps

Thanks, Pete!
The screen (tube) is just a nice Japanese paper from a store here in Toronto. I thought about using a fire retardant but the nice ladies in the paper shop didn't think that was really necessary. I did use of of the newer eco bulbs that run cooler. There's about an inch or so between the bulb and the screen and all the heat can escape unhindered upwards.

Cheers,

Lars
