Clamp-It Assembly Square

Clamped to a case, it helps keep the "right" in right angles

Rockler's Clamp-It Assembly Square.
Keeping a case square during assembly and glue-up can sometimes be a challenge. Indeed, over the years, woodworkers have used all sorts of homemade clamping squares, usually made from plywood, to help keep casework from tilting into the wind while being built.

Now Rockler is offering a commercial version of the clamping square. Called the Clamp-It Assembly Square, it's a right-angled section of high-impact polycarbonate that can be clamped either to the inside or outside of a case piece. For those rare occasions when clamping isn't a good option, the square has a few notches that allow it to be screwed in place.

A quick check of the outside surfaces showed them to be dead square, albeit less than perfectly flat. The inside surfaces were out of square about 1/64 in. over the 6 in. length. That's a bit more than I'd like to see, but acceptable for a good many applications.

Clamp-up proved easy enough, particularly with the help of a spring clamp. Because a spring clamp holds the Clamp-It in position on the case, you're rewarded with two free hands for adding a pair of heavy-duty clamps.

The Clamp-It sells for $11.99. For additional details, contact Rockler at 800-279-4441 or www.rockler.com.
