Turntables for woodophiles
comments (0) March 10th, 2009 in blogsJoel Scilley worked for many years as a carpenter and restoration specialist in the SF Bay area. Then he decided to combine his passion for woodworking with another interest, high-end audio. The result is a line of one-of-a-kind turntables, using both vintage and new components. His designs run the gamut from slice-of-the log natural to elegant contemporary.
Besides turntables, he builds speaker enclosures, stands, and other audio-related furnishings, whatever a customer desires. More of his work can be seen here http://audiowood.com/turntables.html.
If you are in the SF Bay Area, check out the Oakland, Calif., gallery, Artwood http://www.fivetenstudio.com/ where you can see one of his pieces, as well as that of other artisans working in wood and other materials. If you are in the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., area, Magnum Opus Audio http://www.magnumopusaudio.com/ has one of his turntables on display.
Scilley works out of his Oakland studio, which is open by appointment only.
