Dancer

5-drawer jewelry box. Cherry, curly maple (love the sweep of the figure to match the leg curves), blodwood pulls inlaid with sterling silver. Hand cut dovetail drawer joinery. Shellac and oil finish. Inspired by others ... hand built by the grey headed WW. :)

Kudos on Dancer. I have been commissioned to build a dresser by a brother-in-law who has given me great creative lattitude for the project. Upon viewing your box Dancer, I was inspired to use the concept for a "full size" "box". I haven't yet worked out my variations and proportions yet, but will give Dancer "bibliological reference" when I've completed the project. Thanks for your inspiration.

I tip my cap to whomever is the 'winner' ..... IMHO we all win by having the opportunity to view such an outstanding range of work.
My personal thanks to the 950 people who gave "Dancer" a 'thumbs-up' ..... your support feeds my spirit.
Last thoughts from me ...... I have seen many wonderful pieces in the past few days ..... and know that many of us can benefit from sharing what we know ... and the challenges we face amongst the sawdust.
The FWW "Knots' forum is one way to stay in touch .... and I will as well reply to any personal e-mail sent to me.
Do a Google search for David Charles Knipfer ..... and send me a message.
I do hope to stay in touch with .... and share as I can ..... any of you who share my passion for little boxes.
Best

Sorry about that…tried to write, computer screen blanked out and next thing I know it posted twice. I just wanted to thank you for your very kind comments you left. I truly don’t believe the skill comment though:-) Do you know how many times I stared at “Starburst”…countless!! I have almost worn that book out. You have been an inspiration to my work and I am sure many others out there share the same thoughts.
I will contact you on your website!
It’s been an honor,
Jeff

Tell you the truth ...... I hesitated to enter anything into this contest ....... but decided after a long internal debate to show a few photos of "Dancer".
Your kind and generous response to her has me both fired up and humbled ........ I can't believe that over 800 of you have given her a 'thumbs-up".
I am a part-time WW with a passion for creating little boxes ..... just like many of you ..... work comes first and WW is after the family goes to bed. :)
Here is another truth ..... I am never in 'competion" with any fellow WW ...... I will glady share whatever I know with anyone ....... the true competiton is with my hands as they struggle to create what I can see so clearly in my minds eye.
"Dancer" ... as you see her ..... is just one example of my evolution as a WW ....... better to come I hope.
I have lots of photos of "Dancer" creation ....... perhaps they might make a good short-story lesson for some of you?
I share what I know .....
Whatever happens with this FWW 'contest' .... I give my thumbs-up to the winner and hope to stay in touch with anyone who has been inspired by my work.
Thanks to all for you kind words and "thumbs-up".
Best

Dave's work is that unique that you can recognize it in a whole room of boxes.
If you can get Dave involved in a philosophical discussion about design and woodworking you are in for a real treat. Dave is a one of a kind woodworker and I mean that in the highest manner.
Dave, thanks for sharing "Dancer" with us.

I truly enjoyed creating "Dancer" ..... she took a long time to evolve ..... with lot's questions along the way about 'what is right'.
If you design your own work you know what I am trying to say ...... the challenge lies in keeping parts in porportion to the whole ..... not just size ..... that is easy ..... but 'feel' ..... the 'feel' of a piece is very difficult to pull off for me.
Your kind comments tell me that I have achieved that with this piece. Thank You for them.
Jeremiah ..... good to hear from you. Do a Google search for David Charles Knipfer and send me an e-mail ..... would like to catch up and see how your timber selling business is going.
