This engagement ring box is made from a solid block of walnut.  It is covered on all sides with marquetry which I made using a craft knife.  The background veneer is walnut burl and the colored pieces are dyed veneers.  I inlaid a brass cross into the lid of the box and inserted 5mm barrel hinges.

The inner cavity was made with a 1-1/2" forstner bit.  The ring insert is a piece of foam which I punched out using a piece of pipe with a sharpened edge.  This I slit to accept the ring and then covered it with velvet, attaching it with hot glue.
