Spalted Maple chest with coopered lid
comments (0) February 27th, 2009 in Reader's Gallery
This spalted maple chest measures 38" x 22" x 24". The top consists of staves (bent laminations) coopered and joined to form a top that is curved from end to end and front to back. The dovetails had to be hand cut, since the sides of the chest slope inwards by 3 degrees from bottom to top. This gives the chest a solid grounded look.
