Recently I shared this tip with my woodworking audience on my web site and youtube.com.  Some of you may have been using this technique for years but I found after broadcasting this tip that many of you have not.

The normal tracking of the router bit as it rotates can cause tear-out in your wood, many of us, me included, have used a technique called climb-cutting, where we rout it backwards which causes the bit to cut in to the wood instead of away from the wood.  It also causes the router to be able to grab the wood and be pulled dramatically in your direction.  Climb cutting is a really un-safe way to operate this tool.  Bump cutting is a safer alternative, but always, always, always be cautious when using power tools in your workshop.

We've been really busy at our workshop and our audience is growing, we'd like to extend an invitation for you to join in the woodworking forum, daily blog, video jukebox, newsletter, our weekly contest/give away and more over at our web site www.charlesneilwoodworking.com.
