This military service flag box is made with Walnut, Holly, Teak and Maple. The Maple was salvaged from Ike's London HQs during a remodel! The Teak comes form the WWII Battleship, USS WISCONSIN (BB 64). The carved eagle design is taken from a John Bellamy eagle. I found holly to be an exceptional wood for carving. Once oiled it takes on a bone-like finish. The flag was flown at the new US Embassy in Afghanistan. The joinery is false fingers of holly. The finish is multiple applications of hand rubbed tung oil and waxed. The "stuff" inside the box represents 25 years of service to country!
