Memory Box with Trays
comments (0) February 25th, 2009 in Reader's Gallery
This memory box was made from walnut with a solid, book-matched cherry top. The two stackable trays, designed to hold 8.5 x 11 paper, were made from ambrosia maple with contrasting walnut caps for added strength and visual appeal. The customer wanted a memory box to give as a Christmas gift. It needed to hold a stack of paper 4.5" tall. The trays were my idea to make it simpler to get the paper out of the box. The stackable design includes finger holes making it easy to lift out each tray, optimizes the vertical space, splits the load so the trays can be lighter, and includes spaces in the bottoms so that you can push the stack of paper up in the tray rather than having to turn the tray over to get the paper out. The tray parts were made from resawn stock and cut out using a laser engraver. The box is finished with an oil and urethane finish. Solid brass box hinges.
