Notice the bookcase matching top pannel.  This was done with resawing a board and flipping the edges on end to show a unique wood grain pattern.

notice the wooden hand made latch ... its used to secure the Ladle ... the top wooden lever swivels back and forth with a magnet inserted to keep the lever closed to the metal screw
