How to Sharpen a Card Scraper
Contributing Editor to Give Seminar at Kansas City Woodworking Show

The Woodworking Shows are making a circuit of the Midwest and I’m heading to Kansas City this weekend. The event is being held at the Overland Park International Trade Center- Exhibit Hall.
I’ll be at the show Friday, Saturday and Sunday giving seminars and meeting our woodworking friends at the Hand Tool Rodeo . The seminars include a handplane clinic, card scraper clinic and a design clinic. Festivities start on Friday, February 13th with the doors opening at noon. Saturday’s hours are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The handplane clinic is going to be a discussion about four essential shop planes: scrub, jointer, smoothing and block. I’ll also delve into buying, resurrecting and tuning-up used planes.
My good friend Scott Beattie will be joining me at the Hand Tool Rodeo on Saturday. Scott lives in Kansas City and is a dedicated hand tool advocate. Scott will be presenting the afternoon handplane clinic at 4:30 and will be available all day to answer your plane questions.
The card scraper clinic will show you how to quickly tune-up and use this sometimes misunderstood and despised woodworking essential.
In Designing Beautiful Furniture I’ll discuss the fundamentals of grain orientation and color as well as how to properly proportion elements of furniture parts for outstanding results.
Please be sure to stop by and say hi and pick up a free magazine and tote bag. And tell me about your woodworking adventures.
