I built this counter for friends that own a Thai restaurant. The idea was to add a combination of woods which would accent with their Asian decor and make use of limited space where thier old counter was and allow for easy acces for them from behind.
Materials and building procedure:
- Cabinet boxes were mounted in place at 45 degree angles then framed between to accept the front and side panels. The top is than templated using 1/8: luan.
- 3/4" ash frames were than made and router cut from behind to accept the black walnut panels.
- Countertop base is 34" birch ply than 3/4"ash is cut biscuited and joined . Pocket screw are used beneath the top to fasten the black walnut edgeband. The hardwood top is fastened fome below with #8 -1-1/4 flat head cabibet screws.
- Stain was thinned to apply to the ash to darken and make the grain stand out and accompany the walnut colours. Natural finishes used on the Walnut than topcoated with clear lacquers.
