Build this oak toy chest for my neice. The chest is stained with a Red Oak stain and treated with 3 coats of poly on the outside and shellac on the inside. The top is painted with an acrylic paint and then 3 coats of poly. I was concerned about safety so the front and side panels are about an inch shorter than the legs. This way little fingers are less likely to get mashed. The lid latch is also very sturdy and would be hard to operate by a toddler.
