cherry half sideboard

Cherry half-sideboard. Quarter sawn sycamore is used as secondary wood for drawers. The pulls were carved from cherry crotch yielding the darker tone without using dye or stain. The crown molding was made using Jeff Miller's table saw technique (see his book case video on this site). Crown and base molding are attached to sides using dovetail cleats to allow cross grain movement (they are glued for a few inches at the front), a technique used in casework by Thos Moser. Garrett Hack's Fine Woodworking articals on butt hinges, ball catches and drawer bottoms were also helpful.
