This is my version of a live edge bowl. It had some bark on it when I started spinning that soon broke off. I thought about cutting the black area out, but thought I would leave it and see how it turned out. I am glad now I did.
My coworker showed me a jewlery box she has that is carved and textured with Kamakurabori (鎌倉彫). I liked it so much that I decided to replicate it here, and love the texture it gives the outside.
Smaller bowl made out of a local invasive trash species: Ailanthus altissima. I love the figure it has, and it smells kind of like hairspray when worked green.
Some of the figure in the bowl.

I have been making several bowls for Christmas. I have also been making lots of mistakes while making these bowls, which I am determined to learn from and never duplicate. These two are the most successful of the lot.
