"Custom" is the latest advertising tag word. In a media environment where the word "custom" is being thrown around everywhere, it has become difficult for the customer to really know what custom is.
For those of us who live and breathe custom woodworking, however, we know that it's much more than an advertising gimmick or the latest fad. It's an art, a passion, a way of life. It's a challenge that you set yourself, a vision that emerges from an unformed piece of wood, a visual or tactile inspiration.
That's why this week I wanted to share with you an inspirational video of a custom woodworker keeping it simple and staying true to his art. This is what custom woodworking is all about — no gimmicks, no BS, just raw talent.
Watch this talented Moroccan woodworker make a chess piece using two hands, one foot and one very basic tool (while sitting on the side of a busy road). This would have been a familiar site in ancient times but not so much in 2011...unless you happen to live in Marrekesh.

Not really raw talent - I'd say he's honed some skills.
