Free Plan: Wood Storage-Miter Saw Station
comments (50) October 21st, 2011 in blogs
Lets face it: space is at a premium in the workshops of hobbyist woodworkers. Garage and basement shops are often cobbled together without the luxury of having constructed these spaces with the specific intent of building furniture. That's why woodworkers have become savvy with space by creating lots of "double-duty" work stations. A perfect example of this is the ever-popular tablesaw outfeed/router table combination. It brilliantly makes use of a space that's already there for use as a fully-functional router table.
Woodworker Mark Guglielmana used this same principal when he designed this dual purpose wood storage/miter saw station. To speed up construction, his unit was built using a dado set, air nailer, and lots of glue. It boasts plenty of storage, integrated power, and it's mobile thanks to some heavy-duty casters.

Mr. Pressman, Editor, Webmaster, responsible person! Please help the 46 or so of us who have accessed this webpage acquire the measurements, etc.
THANKS!
For those who might be so inclined to attempt this sans dimensions, my recollection is that the base is a torsion box measuring some 33" x 96" and the front and back horizontal pieces of the storage pockets up front were cut from one sheet of 1/2" plywood following the creation of dadoes and a longitudinal ripping - the measurements of which I do not recall. Hope this helps.

I agree with the other comments on this supposed "free plan", I am quite disappointed that there isn't any actual plan. Is this just an editorial over site or just stupidity.

Two points:
First - and most importantly - the plan link seems to have broken recently. I'm looking into this now.
Secondly: Like I said earlier, I agree with the folks who took issue at the bare-bones plan sans-measurements and have let those involved with free-plan production know that going forward, we need these plans to be....well....plans!
Thanks for the input - it was very well received!!
Now back to fixing this darn link!
Best,
-Ed

Were is the "free plan"? What I have managed to find is extremely lacking in real build-ability information and is not a true "plan" as I have come to know it. What I have been able to find is little more than a "concept design". Perhaps I am missing something that is obvious to others. Please help me navigate to the real plan. Or, if this really is all there is, please, in the future be specific as to the type of "plan" (i.e concept or building) that you really mean.

Do you realize how this degrades OUR magazine?
This is NOT "Fine"... there is no word Bad enough to describe this when trying to compare it with "Fine".
A "Plan", if it's a Plan, should have full dimensions ON drawings... Namely: Front, Side,& Top views MINIMUM... other views to cover additional features of the Plan in order to assure an accurate building process following the printed Plan.
This so-called Plan does not come close in any way of doing that.
I ask You... Is this good for OUR magazine?!

When you advertise a free plan, you GIVE a free plan. Not a rough drawing with some comments written in.

I suspect that the the numbers 13, 14 on the two pages shown are the page numbers of the magazine.
