David Charlesworth needs our help

Earlier this month, well-known English woodworker, David Charlesworth, was stricken by acute pneumonia while teaching in Germany. His partner, Pat, spent a week at his bedside in the ICU before he pulled through. He was stable enough to be taken back to England yesterday where he remains in a hospital near his workshop in Devon. Despite having to give up his cigarette habit, he is reported to be in good spirits and is asking for magazines to read. To offset some of the travel and medical costs, as well as to make sure that financial pressures don't force him back to teaching before he has fully recovered, woodworkers around the world are encouraged to make a donation. moscowfield writes: I just got off the phone with David. He came home on Monday but is still very weak. He said he can hardly lift a spoon, let alone a #7 jointer, and the doctors have said it will be 3 or 4 months before he is fully recovered. He wanted to pass on how overwhelmed he has been by the response of the woodworking community and the hundreds of emails he has received. The good news is that before he is well enough to teach and travel he hopes to be well enough to do some writing so I hope we can get him back in the magazine next year. Get well David! Mark

I can't speak for Taunton, only for myself. Although it's been 8 years since I saw David, I still use the Record #4 1/2 that I tuned up under his supervision and I think of him each time it produces thin shavings. I was happy to make a small donation and happy that I was financially able to do so.

May I ask just what Taunton has contributed? (No need to say the amount - just that something was sent)

Sorry to be so callous, but in these Tea Party days of 'everyone for himself' - except when it comes to Banksters and Wall Street bailouts - 'times are tough'. Until my SS comes in 10/26, I count approximately $234 to get there.
