This piece was created using materials shaped by nature. Hand carving of leaves and the oil painting of the Au Sable River was done by Joann Post. Elements incorporated include spalted and figured maple, dark and reverse white birch bark, yellow birch, pine knots and burls, hemlock, moosewood, dogwood, roots, antler shed. We worked with the natural shapes--no steam bending--to give this piece its form and dimension.
