Handmade A13 Infill Plane

I had three sisters growing up and always told them I should have a buisness called Rodriguez Rescue and Repair since I was always saving them or fixing something for them, hence the RRR

One of the many projects this project srarted was a set of old school knurls.  You can't find the rope knurling tool anymoore so I made one along with a few others like the bead knurl on the adjuster.

I started collecting hand planes years ago and fell in love with the infill planes of the past.  I also could not believe the beauty of some of the new planes on the market such as the Hotley A13 and new I had to have one, then I found out the price.  I love both metal and wood working so decided to make one.  After searching the internet for ideas I found Jim Yehle’s article on his construction of an A13 infill plane.  This was a great start so I put it on Autodesk Inventor and made some changes to make it a little more my own and personalized it a bit.  I purchased all of the raw materials except the infill from McMaster Carr and got the Cherry for the infill from a friend who had some slabs from a cherry tree in his yard downed by hurricane Gustav.  I did not realize in the beginning how much work went into this but after too many hours to mention I do now.  I am now hoping I will be willing to take it off of the shelf and put it to good use.  Hopefully this is not the last but only the beginning of my plane making days.
