Walnut bed with bloodwood inlay
Here is a little jig I fitted to my palm router to trim the inlay flush with the headboard and footboard.

The bloodwood inlay was surpisingly easy to bend.  It is 1/4" by 1/4".  I thought it was going to snap for sure.  We chose an oil based floor polyurethane for the finish, which is a nightmare to work with, but is beautiful if you can get it on without any flaws.  My wife found a bed she liked online and we used sketchup from there.  The curves are ellipses, not circles.  I got the equations for the layout from my astronomy class last semester.
