Kane Tsugi End Table

I was commissioned to produce a set of end tables for a client and given free reign to do so. This is what I came up with. I had seen the Kane Tsugi on a few different occasions in the past several years, so when I read Russell Jensen's article in FWW #200 I knew I had to incorporate it. The top is back beveled to about 12 degree's and the stretchers are arched and cut to provide a subtle Asian flare. The legs are tapered on the insides to provide a sense of movement. It is a frame and panel construction with tenons attaching the rails to the legs. The drawer is slightly recessed revealing Wenge inlays in an effort to achieve some movement across the piece.
The piece is produced in Western Knotty Red Alder, Wenge and Hard Maple. It's finished with several coats of tung oil, followed up with several coats of paste wax resulting in a satin smooth finish that begs to be touched.
