I made our bed from standing dead cherry trees found in the forest by my home in Vermont.  I enjoyed stripping off the rotted bark and sap wood and ending with a silky smooth finish highlighting the history of the tree including: spalt, holes from bugs and even wood pecker scars.  The most difficult thing I found in making the bed was having no straight edges aid in the layout and construction.  The second most difficult aspect in construction was explaining to my wife why the bed was not finished yet and we were stilling sleeping on the floor.
