Amy's Box
This is a jewelry/keepsake box that I made for my new sister in-law. The top is produced out of solid pieces of Quilted Maple, Honduran Mahogany and Wenge. It's been beveled to lighten the edges and to aid in bringing out the figure in the maple. The sides of the box are mahogany that I dado'd out and inlaid a 1/4" strip of Quilted Maple; the top and bottome edge was then banded with Wenge. The legs are bubinga splined with Mahogany. The interior tray is mahogany. The interior of the box and tray have been lined with moose hide suede. The box was hand scraped and finished to 600 grit with coats of Maloof's poly/oil in between each grit. It was then finished off with 3 coats of Maloof's oil/wax burnished with Liberon 0000 steel wool after each coat.

The dividers are all pre-fit to the application first to ensure a snug fit. I'll then remove everything for finishing and upholstery.
The liner is an upholstered technique that I've adapted from Bill McDowell's boxes. I'll upholster either a piece of thin ply or heavy art board depending on the size and application and secure that to the box, tray or lid first using contact adhesive spray. I'll then re-insert the dividers and give each joint of the divider a light dab of CA glue.
