We move in a few months, so this Planner tool is perfect timing (from my perspective, anyway). It is much more fun to plan a dream shop in the new garage than to get our existing house ready to sell, although I know you will find that hard to believe.
The new garage is a fairly clean canvass with a great structure and south-facing orientation. Over 10' of height, natural light and a great feel await. Since I've almost always had a basement shop, I'm afraid I won't know what to do with those features.
The double garage door will be converted into a windowed south-facing wall, with one side that can be opened, as Mike Pekovich did. The walls are insulated but the ceiling is not, so that will be addressed. The floor choice might depend on the final choice of heating system, as we want to convert the house from expensive electric to solar or geothermal. What do you think: is it just too much to put radiant floor heating in a shop?
Most of the dust collector and the mains will fit above the ceiling, so much of the noise will be contained beyond the insulation. An upgrade to a Bill Pentz/Clearvue cylcone is planned: the one tool I want to acquire to appoint this space.
The shaper graphic is really a radial arm saw, and the door graphics under the lumber rack are really plywood on a rack, but you knew that. The Planner is a terrific tool; if FWW keeps it, it would be nice to be able to adjust the size of tools, wood racks etc, and to be able to draw/erase lines. And how about some roller stands?
My move is planned - I know what things don't fit and have to be given away, can show my electrician exactly what is needed and can quickly get up-and-running. Thanks!

My work table often pulls double- and triple-duty for tons of shop tasks. Most often it's sharpening, but I also use it for drilling, holding bench hooks and shooting boards and occassionally as a chop-saw station. Hopefully soon, it will also hold a midi-lathe. Since I plan on rearranging the top pretty regularly, I wanted a way to... read full tip
