  • Type: Garage
  • Focus: Furniture
  • Heating/Cooling: electric radiant

The shop started in a double car garage. I recently added a bench room & also a 'carport' / awning to serve as the metalwork/outdoor work area. I like working outside, especially if things get big or messy, but it's always raining in North Van, so I needed shelter. I used Doug fir timbers that I'd salvaged for the addition. Also included in the project was insulation & permanent heating, building well insulated shop doors, 'restoring' a few vintage machines & installing a central dust system.

ry_inman ry_inman writes: Thank you Rob. I was determined to build my own shop doors, despite bringing the construction timeline to it's knees. But i'd encourage anyone else building/setting up shop to make their doors. it's your signature, and nothing beats that feeling of swinging open your very own shop door.
