- SELL VALUE: Focus on selling the value of your services or product during the first conversation; don’t talk about money unless they do.
- DIFFERENTIATE: What is the one thing you do differently from your competitors? Find it and run with it. It will grab your potential customer’s attention, which is the first step to engaging the listener and making the sale.
- FOLLOW UP: Take the initiative to set up a follow up conversation: the buyer typically will not.
- CONTACT INFO is KEY: Get their contact info no matter what. Even if they are not interested, they may have a friend who is.
- EMAIL: Start an email list. Everyone’s timing is different, especially with furniture or a home project. Let them know what you are up to and when you have openings for a new job.
- ASK QUESTIONS! Taking the initiative to ask before your potetnial customer tells you what they need shows professionalism. It also helps to tailor your proposal for them.
- STORIES SELL. Have a good one?
- TAKE PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS and USE THEM: Follow through with your finished project by taking professional pictures. You don’t have to worry about “shelf life”, these can be used in multiple places and many times over to promote your business.
- RECOMMENDATIONS RULE: Ask for a referral or testimonial after every successful project you complete and deliver. Leverage these in your marketing materials.
- GO OUT and GET IT: Don’t be afraid to ask for the business! A successful salesperson asks for the business 3x as often as an average one.
