Guild Moves to Huge New Shop
comments (2) January 31st, 2011 in blogs
A little over five years ago, I wrote an item for the magazine's Notes & Comment column about the hard-workng members of the Greenville Woodworkers' Guild and their new shop. At the time, it seemed like a unique situation for a guild to have its own shop, let alone one equipped with $45,000 worth of tools.
Well, the guild's members have not been sitting still. The group recently moved out of that shop and into another - somewhat larger - facility.
The guild's new shop occupies 24,000 glorious square feet of donated space in a former retail center south of Greenville. The space includes a huge machine room along with dedicated teaching space for young woodworkers and a room with five lathes for turning instruction.
The group, a non-profit organization, plans to use the space to continue teaching its members and pursuing its charitable work, which includes an annual toy-making drive and helping a local center for disabled children.
For a closer look at the shop and the guild's work, have a look at the photos here on their extensive website. Nice going guys!
