Making the Flames for the Methodist Church
First I glued up the solid red oak wood together at different angles to get the grain like flames. After drawing the flame lines I start cutting out the flames with a jig saw. To get the shape of the flames I use a power grinder. The size of both flames together is 3” inches think 4’ foot wide and 14’ foot long. They are made of solid red oak and the customer wanted them toned with red aniline dye to show the wood grain as flames and to make the color look like a flame.
The flames will be with a metal cross on the back wall of the sanctuary stage of the Modale United Methodist Church, in Modale Iowa.
