This is a project I have been working on for 4 months and just recently completed. The design brief was to create a pair of desks that could be placed on either side of an over-stuffed upholstered chair. Holes would be cut in the tops of the desks and customized containers placed under these holes to accept everything necessary for my client to do his work or play music.

Compartments would need to be created for a variety of remotes, an iPhone, several harmonicas, guitar picks, notebooks. briefcase, drink holder, box of tissues, and flat panel display, with additional spaces for multi-line telephone and computer keyboard.

I made a removable music stand to hold sheet music. A motorized lift brings a flat panel monitor up from inside of one of the desks.

The materials are figured bubinga and wenge. I cut the veneer for the tops on my bandsaw.

I have posted larger photos of the desks on my blog where details can be seen more clearly.

dogface dogface writes: Love the desks, choice of materials, and the craftmanship , looks first rate;the chair, well that's another story, looks more inviting for watching a football game, or taking a snooze, than getting work done...
