The primary woods are cherry and curly maple, secondary woods are quartersawn white ash and hard maple. Knobs and pegs are ebony. The finish is an oil/varnish mixture.
I incorporated a bay in the back  for a surge protector/power strip. This is also a space to contain the inevitable and unsightly rats nest of wires that might otherwise hang out the back.

I'm calling this piece a media sideboard as it houses audio/video components behind the doors and a collection of CDs and movies in the drawers. Part of my design intent was to end up with a piece that will look just as at home in a dining room or hallway long after the media components have become obsolete.

mulebone mulebone writes: This is a brilliant and deceptively simple piece. The design is a great blend of the contemporary and traditional. The contrast of curly maple and the cherry really do it for me. The layout of doors and drawers make for a pleasing composition. Simplicity and finesse. Nice work.
