Simple Dining Room shelf using figured Bubinga and ebonized oak.

dafus dafus writes: One thing is not clear from your photos -- is the shelf "floating" above the lower horizontal member, or is it "resting" on it? (I think I would prefer it to be "floating" -- I just wonder if you decided otherwise.)

dafus dafus writes: I think it's an excellent and very clean design. Prepare to be plagiarized! Having lived in several houses with wavy walls, I like that the design allows for some of that -- I really dislike having to fit a piece to such a wall. I would have hung it using keyhole slots in back, but that's largely because I would rather do the fiddlies with the keyholes than fill the holes and match the finish.

ICU8Dust ICU8Dust writes: I spaced the shelf supports so they would hit the wall studs and then just screwed it on. You might be able to see a small dimple on the support (yet to be plugged) where I screwed it.
