It's Time to Crown Our Jig Champs

It's time to crown a couple of "toggle clamp champs" for our Got Jigs gallery challenge. Find out who took home the top honors!

Oh how I wish I had a golden toggle clamp to award to our two jig champs! But alas, the streets outside Fine Woodworking's office aren't paved with gold, and besides, what the heck would you do with a golden jig accoutrement? But I digress . . . it's time to announce the winners of our Got Jigs gallery contest!

Most Ambitious
This award was meant to recognize heavily engineered creations involving some serious mechanical parts. Wrangler55's Router Jig to Flatten Large Slabs really fit the bill. This jig's creative use of linear bearings -purchased from eBay (nice Yankee thrift)-got a lot of attention from the online community, as well as our editors.

Best Idea
For our "Best Idea" category, we were on the lookout for "elegantly simple" jigs. kiwigreg's Simple Tapering Jig was just that. Made from nothing more than a small piece of 3/4-in. MDF with about four-dozen holes drilled in it, this jig couldn't be easier to build. Some folks found it humorous that his simple jig was adorned with a couple of $75 clamps, but hey, those clamps don't make the jig any less elegant or more complex.

Congratulations to both our winners and remember: we've got plenty more contests and challenges lined up for the rest of the year. If you didn't bring home the bacon, er sawdust, this time, you'll have plenty of chances going forward.
