The top lifts out and sits on its own feet.

Before the miracle of Tung Oil.
It all started here with this nice slab of Pearwood from the heart of the tree.

Floating Top

This altar was made as a love offering to Sundance Yoga Studio in Pearland, Texas. I chose Pearwood because it is a warm, beautiful and meditative wood that would never be distracting. The legs are meant to evoke tusks to remind one of Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, and the diety of our Teacher. The slab of Pearwood from which this was made came from an orchard in Europe that was no longer productive. The top was flattened and squared up by hand because it was was too wide for my planer and jointer. I sat with the board for a long time before it told me what it wanted to be. Then it came together very quickly.
