My wife (a second grade teacher) decided that she needed some cubbies for backpacks and jackets this year.  She didn't want to spend the almost $1000 to get the pieces to fit her small corner (and I'm always looking for a project) so this is what we ended up with.  I used simple birch plywood and some 3/8" hardboard for the shelves (nothing but paper will go on those).  It was a pretty simple project; dadoes for the verticals and the shelves, glue and some brads and a few coats of some water-based finish (to keep the classroom from smelling like urethane...) and it was done.
