On the stairs wood plugs are covering the screws. Finished with BLO and wax from the intro to woodworking videos.
With mattress.
Initial frame up. Everything fit more or less.

I built this bed for my 4 yr old daughter. I saw a model very similar to this one at a furniture store for over $1200. Mine cost $350 including the mattress and materials. However this did not include tools as this was my first project (of many to come) I started from scratch and had to buy everything. I was originally going to paint the stairs as well but changed to an oil and wax finish which I am very pleased with.
